taking flight, leaving home
bags are packed, one year to roam
single tread on quiet roads
shouldering a heavy load
Bushmills for a dram or two, strangers stop to say "how-do-you-do"
many pints pass through my hands, so good to see you again
home is where the bike is
home is where your heart is
home is where the bike is
home
weather's warm for three weeks
lucky me, camped by the creeks
cost three euro, glad I'm here
only paid ninety cents for beer
London, Brighton and Cornwall, Captain Australia's seen them all
ride the ferry out to France, are there pirates in Penzance?
seven thousand miles without a flat but sometimes things break down
it's alright, a solution's never far away

The Path Less Pedaled
03:39

Two sets of tires grinding down a gravel lane
Lovely weather gives a feeling that you can't explain
Cooking dinner by firelight
Hear the sounds of the woods at night
Grabbing coffee at a country store
In the morning gonna ride some more
Down the path less pedaled
The path less pedaled
The path less pedaled
And it's feeling good...
Fly fishing on the river's edge
Metal smithing a custom headbadge
Cross the country on a passenger train
Pitching camp in the pouring rain
Fight evil with a folding frame
Lotta miles still left to tame on...

it’s midnight, and two mysterious figures deboard a plane in Minneapolis as the rain falls.
adding to their sense of mystery, they are riding through a deserted airport on folding bicycles.
With formal tails as fine as these, you’d think they would be here on serious business;
And they are, as they are here to secure fame and glory the world over.
As the severe wind whips around them, they survey the apocalyptic landscape:
hundreds of trees lay defeated by the raging storm - even the state line is in flux under the gale.
These are no conditions to be out in the open. The two take refuge in a nearly empty tavern.
Martha the bartender is agog. She reticently eyes the pair and asks: “What’ll you have?”
“Two craft microbrews, if you please.
Oh, and by the way, the names are Purple. And Orange.”
These two aren’t crazy, as much as the bartender is inclined to classify them as such -
they’re simply enthusiastic about their mode of tranasport.
If you thought two herbivores would be limp and listless from a lack of protien, these two will shatter your preconceptions with a smile.
And since they love human powered travel so much, should it surprise you to know that they are certified instructors of the trade?
In addition to chain lubricant, these two power through their days on artisanal coffee, craft beer and hummus.
They love and ride cargo bikes, folding bikes - and, well, all bikes, really - to and from the organic community garden.
And get your cameras ready, folks, because they intend to compete
In the Brompton US Championships.
chorus
Orange & Purple, Purple & Orange
they’re gonna be champions
Orange & Purple, Purple & Orange
they’re gonna be champions...
What saith Shakespeare of these? Let me count the words.
Beard, your orange-tawny beard, your purple-in-grain
Of crow-flowers, nettles, daisies, and long purples
With orange-tawny bill,
The purple violets, and marigolds
Well; but civil count, civil as an orange, and
With purple falchion, painted to the hilt
With purple grapes, green figs, and mulberries
Or thou goest to the orange or mill.
If not from my love's breath? the purple pride
But I’m getting carried away.
The pedals fly, the chains roll over internally shifting hubs,
And in a flurry of motion our heroes roll past the competion and across the finish line.
We all knew they could do it - it was just a matter of proving it.
Well done, our colorful friends, for victory - and acclaim - are yours!
